Frequently
Asked
Questions

For Seller

Why sell my property at auction?

Auctions create a transparent and competitive environment where interested buyers compete openly. For many properties, this can generate urgency, strong buyer engagement and confidence around market value.

Can I choose which auctioneer conducts my auction?

Absolutely. Every auctioneer has their own style and personality. We work with agents and vendors to find the right fit for the property, campaign and audience.

What happens if my property doesn't reach reserve?

If bidding doesn't reach the reserve price, our auctioneers will guide you through the next steps. In most cases, the highest bidder will be given the first opportunity to negotiate with the vendor through the selling agent.

Can my property be sold before auction day?

Yes. Vendors may choose to accept an offer before the auction if it meets their expectations. This decision is made in consultation with the selling agent.

For Buyers

Do I need to register before bidding?

In most Australian states and territories, buyers must register before participating in an auction. The selling agent will explain the registration requirements for the property.

How long does an auction usually take?

Most residential auctions take between 10 and 30 minutes, although every auction is different. The pace and duration depend on the level of buyer competition on the day.

Can an auctioneer refuse a bid?

Yes. Auctioneers may refuse bids that do not comply with the auction conditions, are considered disruptive, or are not made in accordance with relevant legislation, or are not in the best interests of the vendor.

What is a vendor bid?

A vendor bid is a bid made by the auctioneer on behalf of the seller. Where permitted by law, vendor bids must be clearly identified to all participants.

Working with The Auction Team

Why use a professional auctioneer?

Professional auctioneers bring experience, confidence and crowd awareness to every campaign. Their role is to create a structured, engaging auction environment while supporting both agents and vendors throughout the process.

Do you only conduct residential property auctions?

No. Our team also conducts commercial property auctions, charity auctions, fundraising events and corporate auction engagements.

How far in advance should an auctioneer be booked?

Ideally, an auctioneer is engaged at the beginning of a campaign. However, we can often accommodate shorter timeframes depending on availability.

What is the payment and cancellation policy?

All booked and confirmed auctions will be considered payable, regardless of whether they are subsequently cancelled, withdrawn, or sold prior to the auction date.
